The hospital has a surgical ward, medical ward, paediatric ward, obstetric unit, day surgery unit, rehabilitation ward, psychiatric unit and intensive care unit.

It is used by the University of New England's new Rural Medical School students and tutors and has attracted a strong contingent of medical specialists.

A privately operated recent generation CT scanner is located in close proximity to the hospital. There are over 30 general practitioners in Armidale who form a friendly and close-knit medical community that interacts well both professionally and socially.
